Jilin province plans to renovate 1,623 old residential areas

Northeast China's Jilin province plans to renovate 1,623 old residential areas in 2021.

The program will involve 7,130 buildings, an area of 32.05 million square meters and 390,000 households, officials told a news conference on Dec 8 in Changchun, the province's capital city.

The renovation blueprint has been detailed and the program is set for inclusion in the national annual renovation plan. At present, all cities and counties in the province are actively carrying out preparatory work.

In 2019 and 2020, renovation projects covered 2,776 old residential areas in the province. Involving 9,136 buildings, an area of 37.91 million sq m and 491,859 households, the program was included in the national annual plans.

By the end of this year, 831 residential areas earmarked for renovation in 2019 will be completed and of the 1,945 marked for renovation in 2020, 398 have been completed so far.

With the completion of the renovation projects, the infrastructures of residential areas have been thoroughly improved. The space and environment of these areas has been comprehensively enhanced and the residential space has been transformed.

During the news conference, the official paper on the next round of innovations of old urban residential areas was published.

It said that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) -- on the basis of the completed renovation of old residential areas built before the end of 2000 -- cities and counties will aim to complete the work goal of renovating old residential areas built before the end of 2005.
