Changchun, capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province, was recently approved as a national production service-oriented logistics hub.

That's according to a list published by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Transport.

A total of 22 logistics hubs were selected on the list for national logistics hubs and the Changchun production service-oriented national logistics hub was the only one approved in Northeast China.

The Changchun logistics hub is composed of the FAW smart logistics park in the Changchun Automobile Economics and Technological Development Zone and the Changchun CRRC logistics base in the city's Lyuyuan district.

It covers a total area of about 1.55 square kilometers, serving multiple industrial clusters for sectors of automobile manufacturing, rail vehicle manufacturing, advanced equipment manufacturing, food processing, and new materials.

After the hub is completed and goes into operation in 2025, it will transport an estimated 1.2 million commercial vehicles each year, more than 80,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit containers, and the railway freight shipment volume will account for more than 60 percent of the annual total.

Modern logistics industry is the basic, strategic and leading industry supporting the development of the national economy.

The approval of Changchun logistics hub will facilitate cost reductions and increase the efficiency of the logistics industry.

It will promote the development of Changchun from being a logistics node city currently to a major hub city and will boost the supporting role of logistics in the modern urban circle of Changchun.

In future, relying on its development as a national logistics hub, Changchun is expected to strengthen specialized production logistics services, large-scale logistics organizations, and integrated supply chain services.

The hub is expected to promote the deep integration of its manufacturing industry and logistics industry and accelerate the development of hub economy.
