Jilin provincial fire and rescue department recently held a series of fire safety demonstrations and activities, as well as a flag-giving ceremony for volunteer fire fighters -- in Changchun, capital of China's northeastern Jilin province -- to raise people's awareness about fire safety and the need for volunteers, local officials said.

The province's publicity office, emergency management office, education department, civil affairs department and other related departments, participated.

During the activities, nearly 300 volunteers visited the fire safety demonstration school in Changchun -- at the Wisdom Valley School Affiliated to Jilin University -- to view its fire safety displays, attend a fire safety knowledge demonstration class and watch student escape drills and more.

Officials said that following the activities, all cities and prefectures in the province will establish volunteer emergency rescue teams.

They added that more professional emergency teams will also be organized in the province.

These will handle flood rescues, popularize knowledge, help out with poverty alleviation programs -- as well as handle technology, medical care, psychological counseling and other important areas -- so as to support and boost the emergency volunteer services in Jilin province.
