The 2020 Jilin-Thailand Online Commodity Trade Fair was successfully held on July 22 in Changchun, capital of Northeast China's Jilin province -- forging stronger trading links and deepening the existing trading partnership between Jilin and Thailand, according to local officials.

They said the fair was jointly hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Jilin Provincial Committee and the Asian-International Trade and Investment Association.

Held through a video conference, the event saw the participation of representatives from 95 companies from Jilin province and Thailand.

Officials said that 135 one-to-one discussions were held during the fair, with companies discussing doing business in areas including medical equipment, food and healthcare products, agricultural and associated products, agricultural machinery and Chinese medicine ingredients and materials.

Data showed that in 2019, Jilin province reported 3.09 billion yuan ($440.94 million) worth of trade with Thailand, a year-on-year increase of 5.8 percent.

The main exports to Thailand included rail passenger cars and parts, sugar, organic chemicals, regulating or control instruments -- while the main imports from Thailand included automobile parts such as gearboxes, mechanical appliances and components and integrated circuits.

Officials said that Jilin and Thailand boast a long-term stable partnership, especially in the industrial products, chemical products and food industries and the two have great cooperation potential in developing trade in agricultural and associated products, optoelectronics, traditional Chinese medicine, agricultural machinery and other areas.

Officials said the event was expected to boost cooperation between two sides and help Jilin companies expand further into the Southeast Asian market.

More than 40 deals were signed during the event, valued at nearly 15 million yuan, officials added.
