Jilin has worked hard to attract the skilled workers it needs to drive its economy over the past few years.

In 2018, the province recorded 186,800 highly-skilled workers either in employment or as business owners. Among them, 292 were workers from overseas.

In order to encourage more workers with in-demand skills to come to Jilin, the province recently launched four new policies to make the area more attractive to talented individuals.

First, the government has decided to encourage companies to be flexible in terms of their salary arrangements when hiring staff.

Second, highly-skilled individuals that have been with their employers more than five years will be offered one of five different housing subsidies –– based on their skills and qualifications.

Third, for the most highly-skilled workers from China and abroad, the government will provide assistance for their children’s education.

Finally, the government plans to offer more support to entrepreneurs starting businesses in priority industries.
