Hongqi Global Design Challenge commences in Changchun

A global design challenge, with a total of 100,000 yuan ($14,680) in prize money, kicked off in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin province on Aug 1, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of China's iconic sedan brand Hongqi.

The first Hongqi Global Design Challenge was organized by FAW Group Corporation, a Changchun-based Chinese state-owned automotive manufacturing company.

Registrations opened on Wednesday, and will last until Nov 30. Participants are required to choose one city from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xi'an and Chongqing, imagine what the city would be like in the year 2030, and then design a vehicle according to its unique characteristics.

Besides the cash prize, winners' products will be exhibited at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show, according to the committee.

"We hope to attract some creative and talented young designers to take part in this event," said Wang Guoqiang, vice general manager of FAW Group at the launching ceremony, adding that he hopes more and more people will get to know and love Hongqi.

Since its first appearance in 1958, the Hongqi sedan has been regarded as China's prime protocol car. It was frequently used by top Chinese leaders for big state celebrations as well as during receptions for important foreign guests.
