"I care about issues concerning people's livelihood, including support for the seniors, housing and education issues,” said Chu Jianmei, a NPC deputy from Jilin province. "I brought a suggestion on volunteer work to the NPC this year."

Chu is a meter reader at Tonghua Electric Power Supply Company, Jilin province. She has long been devoted to charity work in her spare time.

"My job is to visit families to read electricity meters, and I learned that many people needed help in various ways. That's why I decided to be a volunteer," said Chu.

A volunteer team was set up by Chu in 2010, and more and more volunteers joined her to help local residents.

"We have several projects to provide services to those in need," said Chu, "For example, we have a project caring for the seniors; we care about children with autism, mental disabilities and physical disabilities; we clean up garbage in public areas."

"My suggestion to this year's two sessions is to promote the institutionalization of volunteer work, and attract more volunteers to join us, bringing more warmth and love to our society."

In the next five years, Chu will do her best to help people solve their problems and difficulties in life. She said that she will fulfill her duty as an NPC deputy, and do more for the development of the society.
