Yang Yang: Wu Dajing's success inspires children

CPPCC member Yang Yang shared her views on Beijing 2022 and the potential of ice sports development in Jilin province after the first penal discussion of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on March 4.

She is the chairman of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and was herself a winter Olympic gold medalist.

Since PyeongChang 2018 just ended, she has been popular at the two sessions.

Talking about Beijing 2022, Yang said the committee will improve athletes' experience in regards to food, living, traffic and competition events. Families of the athletes will be able to obtain tickets for the event and cheer for them.

In terms of winter sports chain promotion, Yang said Beijing 2022 will be a shot at the heart to both the development of winter sports chain in China and the world.

She also expressed her confidence in Chinese athletes getting better results in Beijing 2022.

After winning this year's men's 500m short track speed skating, Wu Dajing has won people's cheers.

"I hope he (Wu Dajing) can hold on and continue his great performace," Yang supposed. "I have to say that Wu's winning will attract more children to fall in love with skating."

She also suggested the sports bureau to put more focus on speed skating and support the promotion of this sport with more investment and talents training courses.

To support the Beijing 2022 and promote Jilin province's ice and snow resources, the Jilin municipal government (Jilin province) and Yanqing district-level government (Beijing) signed an agreement on promoting winter sports and sharing skating and skiing talents. Both sides will also work on the construction of ice and snow tourism chain.
